Brenda Whiteside

Brenda Whiteside has been associate vice-president, student affairs at the University of Guelph for 12 years.

She is responsible for all the academic support programs and services offered at the university. Units in her portfolio that relate specifically to mental health include counselling and disability services, student health and wellness services, student housing services, and the Office of Intercultural Affairs. Whiteside acquired policy development expertise in her prior position as secretary of senate. She also spent many years dealing one on one with students in crisis while in her position as a program counsellor. Whiteside began her career on the academic side and still teaches one class a year to remain connected to the learning enterprise.

Whiteside is a member of a number of committees that focus on mental health, including the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) Accessibility Task Force, the COU Mental Health Subcommittee, and the Provincial Advisory Committee on Disability. Outside of the university, she sits on the board of the Guelph Community Health Centre.

Whiteside is a graduate of the University of Guelph, completing an undergraduate degree in management economics and a masters in economics.
